Lifestyle, nursing

It’s Been a Busy Year.

So, it’s finally time to start writing again.

It’s been a busy few months and a crazy year. I’ve started a new job, got married, been on honeymoon and moved house!  The madness of Christmas has been and gone and everything is finally starting to settle down. Life feels good.

My new nursing position is great. I help facilitate and support patients who require home parenteral nutrition (HPN). I see a variety of patients. Some are palliative, some are young and some are older. Some people have long term conditions and will be on nutrition for life and some are on it temporarily. HPN is required when people can’t get adequate nutrition from eating or enteral feeding. They get their nutrition from intravenous fluid. Some people can eat small amounts and some can’t eat at all. It’s fascinating to learn about and I hope to do a more detailed blog about my work. The team I work with are incredibly kind and supportive and it’s just what I needed.

My mental health and wellbeing is something that I’ve been working hard on the past few months. I had taken it for granted the past few years and it came back to bite me. I’d put myself at the bottom of my things to do pile for too long. I now feel much better for looking after me and I hope that everyone around me is also feeling the benefit!

I was at a patient’s house last night and Sister Act was on in the background. I heard Whoopi Goldberg say this and I liked it.

“If you wake up in the morning, and you can’t think anything but singing, then you should be a singer, girl.”

Thanks Whoopi!

I don’t know how often I’ll write of what I’ll write about but I’ll write when it feels right.
